Good morning…

I’m stirred awake by the Spirit at 1:23. The simple ascending pattern tickles my attention.

I look around the dark room, and light plays on our walls. I snap a few photos before I step outside. In the front yard, I check. No moon. In the back yard, I search. No moon. Tomorrow night’s full moon is nowhere to be seen right now.

Sometimes the clouds in life are so thick, and the moon itself cannot be seen. Still the light of the moon penetrates the darkness to throw shadows on our walls. “Trust that I am here.” The whisper wakes my soul.

I am reminded of an encouraging quote.

I believe in Christ

like I believe in the sun –

not because I can see it,

but because of it

I can see everything else.

– C.S. Lewis

In the middle of this soupy night, I believe in Christ like I believe in the moon – not because I see it, but because of it I can see beauty in life’s shadows.

You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” (Psalm 91:1, MSG).
