Good morning…
When I look at ordinary people of faith, I marvel at God growing uncanny strength, from inside out. In the past 24-hours I witnessed the resilience of a down-to-earth family who has endured a lot of heartache over the years. Certainly, their cancer journey has taken an exhausting toll, but more than weathering them weak, I have seen them grow unexplainable strong.
The shock of Tuesday’s scan results first brought unstoppable tears and overwhelming fears, “I’m so scared, I don’t know what to do.” Yet by the next morning, I was flabbergasted at the firm foundation revealed from within the soul of this family. As I texted to offer a “Braves game” Stromboli dinner for last night (since we all know the yummy comfort of warm, homemade Stromboli makes any hurt heal a bit), my friend’s response email was quick and surprisingly chipper.
“Yes, you read my mind, Sue,” she wrote back. “Kids love your Stromboli. Thank you! I am going to text the kids now. They will be so excited.”
When I asked about how their family was digesting the difficult news, she said, “We just told the kids we are looking at strange spots on the liver, but we will find out what we are dealing with when we meet with the doctors in NYC. As a family we decided, ‘There is no point of sitting around guessing until we get more information on Friday.'”
I love the “no point of sitting around guessing” approach to life. This faithful family is standing on the secure solid ground Jesus cultivated in Matthew 6:34 (AMP): “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
When I look at ordinary people of faith, I marvel at God growing uncanny strength, from inside out.
