Good morning…
She emailed me after yesterday’s post, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.
“Upon waking today, holding tight on the 3rd anniversary of my husband’s death,” she wrote, “I read your message with the open hands. Then, lo and behold, Henri Nouwen is telling me to unclench my fists and let love enter. I pray with open hands to let God’s love enter.”

DAILY MEDITATION | APRIL 30, 2024 – A Prayer by Henri Nouwen
Dear God,
I am so afraid to open my clenched fists! Who will I be when I have nothing left to hold on to? Who will I be when I stand before you with empty hands? Please help me to gradually open my hands and to discover that I am not what I own, but what you want to give me. And what you want to give me is love—unconditional, everlasting love.
Amen.

“God’s timing is amazing,” I replied. “Clenched fists is our fear. Open palms is our trust. I love that God is teaching you so tangibly today. You are in the loving care of the One who calms the storms of grief, over time.”
We are not what we own, what we feel, or what we do. We are what God wants to give us. And what God wants to give us is love – unconditional, everlasting love.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love — out of faithfulness I have drawn you close,” (Jeremiah 31:3b, VOICE).
Will we choose to unclench our fearful fists to open our palms in trust? God, please help us to gradually open our hands to let your love enter.
