wounds

Good morning…

After we shared deeply about the pain she was enduring, one friend prayed for another friend over the phone. Capturing the compassion in my journal, I jotted down many of her vulnerable words. Now in the middle of the night I revisit my notes, piecing together this heartfelt prayer.

Dear gracious God,

Raw and in process, we seek space for the deep down things. The feelings. The questions. The needs under all of our layers. In this painful, messy, in process place, we ask together that the layers be peeled back, exposing our wounds to light, to fresh air, to your healing love. Might you so tenderly touch these places of rupture and apply the ointment, the covering, the truth, the assurance that only you can offer? We pray for healing in every way. You intend it. You desire it. You are working it in our bodies, yes, and in our hearts, in our minds, and in our world of relationships. We ask you for whole, full-bodied healing. In Christ’s powerful name we pray. Amen.

Honoring the holy shared moment, we each whispered “Amen.”

Celebrate your hope; be patient in suffering; give constant energy to prayer (Romans 12:12, NTE).
