Good morning…

We live in the now and are moving into the future. How do we find balance in this precarious position, being here while going there?

In yesterday’s post, Amid The Mayhem Of May, we learned one important truth: we humans are not equipped to know, to see, or to understand the intricate work of God, the Maker of all things. We are designed purposefully to live in the dark unknown …for we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). With an eternal perspective, the LORD made each of us in the interactive image of the Creator-Christ-Spirit (Genesis 1:26-27), breathed the living Spirit into our lungs (John 20:22), and created us to be guided from within by the One True God who knows, who sees, and who understands everything (Jeremiah 31:33, Hebrews 8:10).

Yet as time lumbers along, we get tired of waiting in a dependent state, not knowing with our own mind, not seeing with our own eyes, not understanding with our own heart. Impatiently we take control, acting, planning, deciding without God. How does the LORD respond to the jam-packed agenda of our big “I”? And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, “Today—at the latest, tomorrow—we’re off to such and such a city for the year. We’re going to start a business and make a lot of money.” You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, “If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that” (James 4:13-15, MSG).

To find balance as we live in the now and move into the future, might we dive deeper into our divine interdependence? Instead of pushing our way, acting, planning, deciding without God, might we listen longingly for our LORD’s loving lead? Holding lightly to a few seeds of possibility, we can say each day, “If I wake up breathing and our Master wills it, I will do this or I will do that.” Our All-knowing, All-seeing, All-understanding God patiently reminds …apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing (John 15:5b, AMP). Like a free-flowing wisp of fog, we are created to catch a brief bit of sun before our time on earth disappears. Today might we enjoy the warm sun shining through us as we are carried on the breezy Spirit to the people, the places, and the purposes of God?

To find our balance as we live in the now and move into the future, our one daily task is simple. Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you (John 15:5a, AMP). As we remain in God and God remains in us, the will of God is gradually gifted. In God’s time we will know. Eventually we will see. Bit by bit we will understand the life-giving plan emerging from our vital union with God.
