Good morning…
In the presence of God, we have been here before.
In the beginning, God created everything: the heavens above and the earth below. Here’s what happened: At first the earth lacked shape and was totally empty, and a dark fog draped over the deep while God’s spirit-wind hovered over the surface of the empty waters. Then there was the voice of God.
God said, “Let there be light.”
And light flashed into being. God saw that the light was beautiful and good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God named the light “day” and the darkness “night.” Evening gave way to morning. That was day one (Genesis 1:1-5, VOICE).
In every new experience, there is always a day one. Each fresh life phase. First breath after birth. Slow growth through loss. Journeying from not knowing to wholehearted wisdom. Before the end of day one, there is lack of shape. Total emptiness. Dark fog draping over our depths.
And yet.
There it is, God’s spirit-wind hovering. There it is, a surface to the empty waters. There it was. There it is. There it will always be, the voice of God.
Moment by moment, only God can speak on life’s light. Light, beautiful and good, flashes into being as God beckons. Darkness and light co-exist forever. Day and night dance, ’round and ’round. Evening gives way to morning, again and again. Always, always, there is a day one.
In the presence of God, we have been here before. Shapeless. Empty. Dark. Fog. Deep. In the presence of God, we will be here again.
Hello to a fresh day one.
God, in what way is today a day one for us?
