Good morning…
Recently, my husband Steve and I hosted a Community Christian Seder. People from all walks of our lives over the past thirty years joined us to celebrate the Jewish tradition of Passover overlaid with the life-giving teachings of Jesus. What a meaningful evening we enjoyed together. As we know, Jesus himself was celebrating a Passover meal with his disciples in the upper room at the Last Supper, before he was captured and crucified, was laid in a tomb and rose on the third day. Important connections were made, both socially and spiritually, as we ate and we drank, we talked and we took turns reading the sacred story out loud.
Learning together experientially is simply the best!
One of the growing groups who were reunited that evening were people who have traveled with Steve (and sometimes me) over the years. Steve’s new role at The Lovett School is leading adult trips for people who enjoy learning experientially in small groups. Together, we have traveled repeatedly to the holy land of Israel. To the Camino in Spain. To Greece/Turkey, following in the footsteps of Paul. To the Galapagos, where the most basic elements of God’s creation are explored. Of the sixteen who are traveling to Egypt with Steve in a few weeks, some were in attendance. At the Seder, I sat with a woman who is going to Machu Picchu with us in August, as a 65th birthday trip for herself and a friend. The next day, two great friends who are nearing their eightieth year also signed up for the Machu Picchu trip. A handful of people were asking about details for our 2027 Galapagos trip, as together we will explore a new set of islands.
One of the things the story of the Exodus teaches is that if God wants to teach us something he’ll take us on a journey.
Blessed are those who make You their strength, for they treasure every step of the journey (Psalm 84:5, VOICE).
