Good Morning…

A generous friend gave me tickets to see the musical version of The Color Purple at the Fox Theatre.

For years and years, the main character, Celie, languished under the silencing power of incest, emotional and physical abuse, and the debilitating pain of being labeled “ugly.” Reaching her breaking point in the second half of the play, Celie sings out the anguish of feeling God’s complete absence. Genuinely loving Celie’s soul, her dear friend, Shug, boldly belted out a brand new song: “God is here. I see God inside of you. You, my dear, are absolutely beautiful.”

In the power of God’s Holy Spirit, eventually Celie leaves her abusive marriage and settles freely into her own home. Creating a new business of sewing colorful pants, she joyfully sews one-of-a-kind pants for any woman or man, skinny or plump, young or old, who yearns to express their God-given self.

It strikes me that Celie’s sewing machine is a lot like my pen and my journal. What creative form of expression is God using to coax out to your personal song of redemption?

He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord (Psalm 40:3, NLT).
