Good morning…
As the sun set on Sunday, September 11th, 2022, one loyal subscriber sent a picture of God’s presence off the coast of Oregon. On the very same night, God’s living presence was captured in a different time zone by another reader.
“My Sunday sunset view on a flight home to Florida,” she shared this stunning photo.
I think just as life-giving is God’s presence saturating the cover art on a book a friend just sent me. The God who wondrously sets the sky ablaze, night after night, is this same God who keeps an intimate eye on each of us, moment by moment.
When painful tragedy visits us, we may feel like the prophet Isaiah. The Eternal One has abandoned me. God has walked out the door; my Lord left me alone. He has forgotten all about me.
Yet God lovingly responses with the breath of eternal life: Is it possible for a mother, however disappointed, however hurt, to forget her nursing child? Can she feel nothing for the baby she carried and birthed? Even if she could, I, God, will never forget you. Look here. I have made you a part of Me, written you on the palms of My hands… (Isaiah 49:14-16a, VOICE).
When you face stormy seas I will be there with you with endurance and calm; you will not be engulfed in raging rivers. If it seems like you’re walking through fire with flames licking at your limbs, keep going; you won’t be burned.
Because I, the Eternal One, am your God…
Because you are special to Me and I love you… (Isaiah 43:2-4, VOICE).
