Good morning…
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I read aloud to each class the series of Scripture verses filling yesterday’s post. We opened our inner ears to notice the words touching our hearts, then we popcorn-ed out our phrases beneath the heading “Our Hidden Life.” As we recorded our reflections, together we scribbled God’s answer to our deepest question, “Who am I, really?”
“We reflect God’s nature,” began Monday’s list. “We offer our waking and sleeping life to God. Do not be conformed to this world, be transformed by God. Born complete in body and spirit. Approved, consecrated, chosen. Holy Spirit power is hidden in us, forming our identity. The Word made flesh now fills our flesh. Set apart for God’s purposes. I choose you, you did not choose Me. Bear My fruit, fruit that will last. Harness My power to transform, to spread My light. Our real life is hidden in Christ, this is our real life. Teach. Live with integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture. Spirit of power, love, and self-control. Renewal. Maturity. Persevere. Witness God at work in us.”
“We are blessed to be a blessing,” began Wednesday’s list. “Remain connected to God’s vine. Marvelously made. Breathtaking creation. Woven into the tapestry of love. Sculpted from nothing into something. God’s instrument. Chosen. Purposefully made. Complete body and spirit. Mind confident and at rest. Not given a timid, fearful spirit but a spirit of power, courage, and love. Imperishable endowment from the Holy Spirit. Mystery. Stay at your post. Breath of fresh air. Fan into flame. Be a Light bearer. Keep open house in the darkness of the world. We are bearers of the Light of Christ. We are a fractal of God’s own DNA. When you light a fire, you stay with it, you tend it. Do not put out the Spirit’s fire.”
“Breathtaking, body and spirit,” began Friday’s list. “Adoration. Be at home in God’s love. Stay at your post. Teach believers with your life. Bring out the best. Well-formed maturity. Live life in abundance until it overflows. Be transformed to transform. I consecrated you as My own. I formed you in the womb. I knew you before you were born. I shaped you inside and out. We reflect God’s nature. Created to be caregivers for every living thing. Place your everyday, ordinary life before God as an offering. We are given the mind of Christ as our guide. Christ is in us. Shine as Light in this dark world.”
For you personally, which of these words sparkle most as you privately ponder, “God, who am I, really?”
Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like (James 1:22-24, MSG).
