Good morning…

Every morning, I try to discern a truth God is teaching.

“…he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat [for nourishment]?” says the Lord. Is not My word like fire [that consumes all that cannot endure the test]?” says the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks the [most stubborn] rock [in pieces]?” (Jeremiah 23:28b-29, AMP).

Morning by morning, God’s living word is like nourishing wheat to my spirit, like fire burning away parts of me that are not of God, like a hammer breaking open my stubborn resistance. Then I press “send,” and you are nourished, you are refined, you feel your own stubbornness broken into more manageable pieces.

Every Valentine’s Day, we begin preparing for our Summertime Devotional, a devotional sent electronically through Northside Church each morning in June, July, and August. The Summertime Devotional knits together our favorite blog posts from the school year, allowing God to reconfigure the messages in a brand new way.

Your voice is vital. For the Summertime Devotional, we love to include your favorite messages from September until now. We ask that you prayerfully consider which messages have been most life-giving to you personally. Some of you might instantly know the topic of your favorite messages (Jesus drank wine, Our backdoor people, Rising up after loss, etc.) Many of you will take time to touch on the “Visit website” tab at the bottom of each message and scroll back through old blog posts to spark the memory of your favorites. Once you have identified morning messages God has used to nourish, to refine, and to break you open in new ways, please touch “Reply here” and share with me your favorite posts.

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12 AMP).

Thank you for helping to discern the words we love the most.
