Good morning…

“Have you ever felt like nobody was there?” begins the song. “Have you ever felt forgotten in the middle of nowhere? Have you ever felt like you could disappear? Like you could fall, and no one would hear.”

I think we all have moments when we would honestly answer “yes” to these gut-wrenching questions.

“Well, let that lonely feeling wash away,” the words from a Broadway musical continue. “Maybe there’s a reason to believe you’ll be okay. ‘Cause when you don’t feel strong enough to stand you can reach, reach out your hand.”

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to reach, to reach out our hand. Yet it can be as simple as one grieving friend texting me this week, “Just having a really hard time lately.”

I can’t mend her breaking heart. I can’t soften her extremely hard situation. I can’t fix her overwhelming feelings. My gift is constant prayer. I can pray that God finds her, lifts her, carries her through this aching sorrow back into a state of dependable joy.

“There once was a shepherd with a hundred lambs, but one of his lambs wandered away and was lost. So the shepherd left the ninety-nine lambs out in the open field and searched in the wilderness for that one lost lamb. He didn’t stop until he finally found it. With exuberant joy, he raised it up, placed it on his shoulders, and carried it back with cheerful delight!” (Luke 15:4-5, TPT).

When I wandered away from the life of my dreams and felt lost in the wilderness for a long season myself, I learned to more deeply trust the Shepherd who searched for me and found me, who raised me up and carried me back with cheerful delight. As this beautiful song rings true in my ears, I carry my lonely friend in my heart, deeply believing, “You will be found.”
