Good morning…
“The facts of everyday life are a rich source for doomsday thinking and feeling,” says Henri Nouwen in his 9.19.17 morning message. “But it is possible for us to resist this temptation and to stand with self-confidence in this world, never losing our spiritual ground, always aware that ‘sky and earth will pass away’ but the words of Jesus will never pass away (see Luke 21:33).”
We do not want the sky to pass away.
We do not want the earth to pass away.
We do not want our loved ones, our comfort zones, our hopes and dreams to ever pass away.
Yet the enduring words of Jesus ground us spiritually: “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal” (John 12:24-25, MSG).
