Good morning…
I spend time weekly with tons of amazing women. Each one is uniquely different, the quality I most love about God’s eclectic masterpiece called “People.” Recently, I enjoyed a funny email exchange with the mom who may win my “funniest friend” award.
Letting me know she would have to miss class, she wrote: “Hey girl!! Won’t be there today. My daughter is so sick with fever and sore throat. We are on Day 2 with this. I know I’ve told you before but I really do love this class. It has opened up a part of me that’s been closed for a while. I’m glad you are in my life!!! Y’all don’t have too much fun without me… I mean it!!!!! ?
P.S. This week was suppose to be the most hectic and crazy week leading up to my daughter’s 18th birthday on Saturday. I’ve just been put on hold. Is this some sorta test, God?? Hello!! Gotta love life! Little prayer for patience for me today please!! Lol.”
So I wrote back: “We will miss you today. I promise, no fun will be had without you. With your daughter sick, you ask, “Is this some sorta test God??” I sense Him answering, “No. This is a pure gift from Me, to both of you.” When was the last time your high school senior really needed your tender care and was too tired to resist your expressions of motherly love?
I remember when my preschoolers were little red-faced heat-boxes on sick days. I actually loved those days. We would stay in our pajamas. Nestle in the house. Watch TV, sleep, eat to no schedule. Those are some of my warmest memories. I pray that you and your growing up girl enjoy unwrapping together this early birthday gift from God. By, the way, I also love opening up new parts of myself with you each week.”
Right away she replied: “Well there you go again!! You are always making me tear up!! But in a good way. Thank you for your inspirational message!! Love ya!”
Your mother was a vine
growing near a stream.
There was plenty of water,
so she was filled with branches
and with lots of fruit (Ezekiel 19:10, CEV).
May these words be true of us as we drink in God’s daily nourishment.
