staff

Good morning…

For twenty years I have been on staff at Northside Church, two years in the Children’s Ministry and eighteen years as the Women’s Ministry Director. Annually we get away together. Last Tuesday was our day of staff training.

One activity we did was to write on a canvas words that describe one another. We took time to silently say, “This is how I see you.” I loved walking around the room and jotting down encouraging phrases, phrases which captured the uniqueness of each of my twenty-two co-workers.

I also enjoyed seeing how other people perceive me. Like looking into a mirror, the following words fell gently on my page.

  • You are a unique and a beautiful child of God
  • sweet and kind
  • present
  • counselor
  • You see God everywhere you go!
  • The Holy Spirit
  • creative
  • creative & kind
  • loving
  • prayer warrior
  • deep thinker, prayerful
  • love
  • connected to the Source!
  • always present!
  • giving
  • Spirit
  • heart for God . . . heart to share God

I’m not sure what other people will do with their words of affirmation, but I’ll keep my canvas in a quiet corner of our home. I’ll probably visit with her periodically, especially when I experience patches of pain or descend down into self-doubt. Remembering who we are as unique children of the living God, this is a gift we can give to each other, honestly and often.

Now all of us, with our faces unveiled, reflect the glory of the Lord as if we are mirrors; and so we are being transformed, metamorphosed, into His same image from one radiance of glory to another, just as the Spirit of the Lord accomplishes it (2 Corinthians 3:18, VOICE).
