Good morning…

I received this fun photo from my sister yesterday. In March, she will celebrate the birth of her second grandchild.

Soon after, I received another text. “We started hospice care on my mom today,” wrote a friend who has been nurturing her mother in the ICU.

“What might that look like?” I texted back.

“We started pain medicine around 1:00 pm today,” she explained. “They say it will be less than a week. Most likely a few days.”

It struck me that these two special women in my life are each preparing for a second birth. One, a birth on earth. The other, a birth back to heaven.

We each live a unique lifetime between these two births, born first on earth then born back to heaven. Life, lovely while it lasts, is soon over. Life as we know it, precious and beautiful, ends. The body is put back in the same ground it came from. The spirit returns to God, who first breathed it (Ecclesiastes 12:6-7, MSG).

Right now, we wisely wonder, “How will I live this precious day in my own lovely life?”
