Good morning…
Enjoying a short visit with my parents in Ohio, I ran across a half page paper on a table in their villa. Reading the words out loud to myself, I thought, “An oak tree. What a wonderful symbol of my parents as people.”

At ages 88 and almost 87, my dad and my mom are deeply rooted with God. Weathering health challenge after health challenge for the past several years, my parents are strong, grounded and growing. Gathering to celebrate my dad’s 88th birthday, our expanding family tree is a beautiful thing to see.

Finally, Jesus said:
What is God’s kingdom like? What story can I use to explain it? It is like what happens when a mustard seed is planted in the ground. It is the smallest seed in all the world. But once it is planted, it grows larger than any garden plant. It even puts out branches that are big enough for birds to nest in its shade (Mark 4:30-33, CEV).
Having planted the seed of their love nearly sixty-five years ago, I admire the deep roots and welcoming shade of my faithful parents.
