spring

Good morning…

One thing that has lifted my spirits this year is the act of spring cleaning. My friend Elizabeth has begun a small decluttering business, and she used me as her guinea pig. Here is what she wrote up about our hands-on experience.

Most of us slowly grow blind to our clutter. We walk around it—or sometimes over it—so often that we stop noticing how much energy it drains from us. Over time, it just starts to feel like that’s normal.

But our homes were meant to be places of rest, not stress.

Here’s how we created the transformation you see in these photos. We worked one category at a time, removed everything from the space, and sorted items by use, season, and style. Anything out of season was stored elsewhere. Then we put back only the favorites—the things that were actually being used and enjoyed. Everything else was donated, sold, or relocated.

Notice how much lighter the space feels. You deserve that sense of lightness and peace every day.

I loved, truly loved, my spring cleaning sessions with Elizabeth. Together, we tackled our closet, our office, and the basement storage area of our home. With her kind and caring help, the tasks which seemed so overwhelming to me by myself were broken into manageable, short term projects. Putting some order to our chaos, bit by bit, has helped me to experience that sense of lightness and peace Elizabeth so wisely describes.

For the Lord is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos (Isaiah 45:18, NLT).

P.S. Elizabeth recommends: “If you’re thinking about decluttering your own home, take ‘before’ photos. They help you see progress clearly and appreciate the change, even when it happens gradually.”
