Good morning…
Last weekend, I flew into Boston with our two daughters, Tessa (29) and Adrianna (27). After a delicious lunch and a walk along the harbor, we drove our rental car four hours up the coast to Rockport, Maine. Traffic. Tolls. Cool roadtrip music. Crisp autumn weather. Good conversation. A brand new adventure.

Tessa was in a wedding for her college roommate, and she asked if Adri and I wanted to join her for a girls’ weekend away. Charming AirB&B. Strolling quaint towns. Yummy, yummy food. Down to earth people. Bonding sister runs. A hike through fall colors.

Never before have just the three of us shared a mother-daughter weekend away.
Being together, I realize that our daughters are living a life phase I never experienced in my own lifetime. My husband Steve and I met in college and got married after I finished graduate school. At the time, we were 24 years old. I never got the chance to pay rent with friends, cook and clean together, tackle first jobs together, face the hard task of adulting together. I admire our daughters and the way they are living their young adult years. Enjoying good friends. Maturing in faith. Exploring “Who am I and what do I love?” Balancing work demands and personal interests. Watching their besties get engaged, married, move on, have kids.
Maine was magical. We experienced a snapshot as life as it is, mother and daughters creatively connected, each aging in empowering ways.
While we were away, a college friend of mine sent me a funny image I could so relate to as a 63 year old woman.

“Ahh, life!” our kids hear me say often as we breathe in the moment at hand. Life has its way of moving us on, taking us by the hand and shepherding us along.
So I think we should get as much out of life as we possibly can. There is nothing better than to enjoy our food and drink and have a good time. Then we can make it through this troublesome life that God has given us here on earth (Ecclesiastes 8:15, CEV).
