Paw

Good morning…

During our therapeutic community group at PAWkids this week, we learned about letting go. “What does letting go actually look like?” our hand-out asked.

What catches your eye as you review the sheet now?

letting go

Here’s what we learned about the art of letting go.

  • You accept that some things won’t change.
  • You stop reopening doors that hurt you.
  • You make room for something new.
  • You choose peace even when you still remember.
  • You stop needing closure from someone else.
  • You make peace with what you cannot take back.
  • You let yourself feel what you are feeling.
  • You stop trying to control the outcome.
  • Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It means choosing not to carry everything forward.

Of these nine bullet points, which ones resonate with you most deeply?

Then, looking through cards depicting different aspects of our ordinary lives, we chose images which describe what we are learning to let go. I choose an image of a a woman with multiple arms, multi-tasking mightily. On dried up leaves, we wrote words which describe what we are hoping to shed.

“Overgrowth.” Overgrowth was my word. Lord, please shed my overgrowth as I juggle too many things.

Sometimes we rest as God works. We rest as God works. Other times we actively participate in the letting go process.

We accept.

We stop.

We make room.

We choose peace.

We let ourselves feel what we are feeling.

It is wise to recognize, “Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It means choosing not to carry everything forward.”

In this autumn season, what might you be choosing not to carry forward?

You get us ready for life: you probe for our soft spots, you knock off our rough edges (Psalm 7:9b, MSG).
