Good morning…

“Good morning Sue!” she wrote after yesterday’s blog post, Might We Tip Toward Joy? “I loved this morning’s reflection! We are savoring the Western version of your friend’s joy-filled remedy for grief. Here in Jackson Hole with our adult children, along with one of their sweet girlfriends and another college friend, we are savoring gorgeous hikes, a bear and her cub sighting, card games of hearts by the fire, playing pool at the Cowboy Bar, long dinners filled with laughter, morning coffee while soaking in the stunning view of the Teton range.”

“We went to the rodeo Saturday night,” she continued, “and unexpectedly the crowd was asked to pause for ‘a moment of silence for those loved ones we’ve lost in the past year.’ Wow – I definitely teared up, less than three months after losing my Dad, but this time the weight of joy, as you say, is starting to gently tip the scales, and I am so very grateful!”

Wherever we are today, at home or away, as we focus on the small things for which we are grateful, the weight of joy starts to gently tip our scales. Savor this moment. Walk outside. Notice new things. Let your spirit play. Enjoy long dinners. Laugh together. Sip coffee slowly. Soak in life’s views. Definitely tear up. Pause regularly in silence, savoring the memories of loved ones lost. Be so very grateful. Each life-giving choice to focus on life’s everyday blessings becomes another ingredient in God’s remedy for grief.

God created all these to be received with gratitude by people who hold fast to the faith and really comprehend the truth. For everything God made is good. That means nothing should be rejected as long as it’s received with a grateful heart (1 Timothy 4:3b-4, VOICE).
