Good morning…
While on retreat Monday and Tuesday, we spread out into delightfully inviting guest rooms. One friend brought me into her room, and said, “Sue, look what’s on my bedside table.”
Wow. It was The Circle of Love, a small, hardback book of meditations written by my spiritual mentor Betty Skinner. How dear.
We just happened to open the book to Betty’s poem entitled “Mountain House.” As I read the words out loud, a feather fell down and rested on the page. What a sacred moment.
I snapped these photos and sent them to the authors of The Hidden Life Awakened, the life-changing book chronicling Betty’s journey through the valley of clinical depression up to the mountaintop of oneness with God. Along with co-authors Kitty Crenshaw and Dr. Cathy Snapp, I also texted Dana Cunningham, the gifted pianist who played live music at all of the Awake to Wholeness conferences we have led over the years.
“Good morning, ladies,” I wrote. “I am on an overnight retreat in the mountains at Big Canoe with the women from my Thursday morning group. This book was on the bedside in a guest room. As I read aloud Betty’s poem “Mountain House”, a little feather came out of nowhere and landed on the page.

I listened to your Homecoming CD all the way up here, Dana. Heading home, I will listen to Above the Field. Feeling your presence with me now and always! Betty is alive, sending joy, love, peace through the thin veil!🫶🏼”
Right away, Dana responded: “Hello beloved friends, it is sweet to the soul to hear from you Sue and to think of the three of you and all that you have accomplished, especially regarding Betty’s seminal work. Thank you for listening to my Homecoming CD… I believe it’s one of my best works, alongside Dancing at the Gate and Above the Field. And I’m so grateful that people still listen. Sending all of you my love and Best ❤️🙏”
And she sent a photo of us together at the gathering we hosted with family and friends in Jacksonville, Florida after Betty went to heaven in August of 2021.
“Hi everybody!” Kitty replied. “That pic made me nostalgic about those fun sweet days💕.”
With Betty’s book beside us on the bedside table, a feather dropped from heaven, and an ability to text each other, any time, anywhere, the life of Betty Skinner lives on through us, expanding into eternity the Circle of Love.
Our experience is summed up in the Biblegateway verse for today. For we are the product of His hand, heaven’s poetry etched on lives, created in the Anointed, Jesus, to accomplish the good works God arranged long ago (Ephesians 2:10, VOICE).
