Good morning…
Arriving home from my time away, I opened the invitation to our oldest son’s wedding. I savored the handmade beauty. I took the picture above and texted it to our daughter-in-love-to-be, letting her know how much I appreciate her tender loving care with every little detail. I also shared the photo and gratitude with her mom, who is putting so much kind work into wedding preparations with her husband. Such joy lies ahead.
Joy, laughter, and dancing is to come, but today my husband and I wake to a quiet home. Our summer house guest left yesterday, and with all four of our kids in the wedding, they are away enjoying the bachelor and bachelorette weekend, the women in Austin, Texas, and the young men at Tate Lake in Georgia. Joy, laughter, and dancing is to come, but today we wake to our quiet home.
Sharing a pot of coffee. Ordering a new stand for our bird feeders. Filling our planters with herbs and flowers. Yard work and house tending. Planning a matinee movie before a simple dinner out. Into our quiet home we invite soul-filling activity. We are grateful for the ordinary kind of stuff filling a normal Saturday in our sixtieth year of life, a bonding prelude to our upcoming once-in-a-lifetime party.
Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son,” (Matthew 22:1-3, NIV). Here is my deep prayer for today. May this month of final wedding preparations feel like the kingdom of heaven taking form in brilliant colors.
I leave you with a taste of the song we are considering for our mother/son dance, a cherished song from a Chris Rice CD our family sang along with as we traveled cross country in our pop-up camper when the kids were little. How fun it is to dream deeply of the memories, old and new, snowballing within our family this special summer.
…Sue…
P.S. Our 22 year old son, Jeremiah, has had a very successful summer with his first business, Bulldogs Pressure Washing. He has one more week left in Atlanta before he heads back to UGA for his senior year of college. If you have any pressure washing needs he could meet for you this week, please reach out to him directly. This fall, he is taking his business back to Athens, so if you know of anyone in that special college town who might have pressure washing needs, please connect them to Jeremiah Allen. Thank you for your generous support of our second son’s entrepreneurial spirit!
