egypt

Good morning…

Over the years, several of us have traveled in small groups to Israel with my husband, Rev. Steve Allen, talented trip leader and head chaplain at The Lovett School. The experiences have been breath-taking, eye-opening, life-changing. Many more of us have enjoyed vicariously our blog posts from the Holy Land, year after year, during the spring Lenten season.

Steve now invites us all into a new adventure. Egypt, anyone?

“The faith that we live today can be traced back to one time and place in history: The Exodus from Egypt,” Steve explains. “It was there that God renewed his covenant with the people of Israel. It was there that God’s power over the most powerful nation on earth was on display. It was there that the story of Moses, one of the greatest prophets who ever lived, unfolded. It was there, in the midst of that amazing drama, that the Ten Commandments were issued.”

“Come with me as we explore the foundations of our faith,” Steve continues. “Come with me as we travel to Mt. Sinai and stand on the same mountain where Moses met with God. Come with me as we travel on the Nile River and retell the story that so many of us have heard our entire lives. We will take a sunrise hike up Mt. Sinai, enjoy a luxury cruise on the Nile River and stand in awe of the Pyramids of Giza. We will be there in April, just after Easter, a perfect time to experience all that Egypt has to offer.”

Egypt also plays a role in the New Testament. After Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph, we pick up their story in Matthew 2:13-15 (NIV). …an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Into our Egypt 2024 small group of thirty, might God be calling you?

P.S. For some, health issues, family demands, or financial challenges keep us closer to home. For others, the timing might be just right. If you are interested in receiving a flyer with trip details, please reply to this email and I will connect you to Steve.
