Good morning…

Essential things linger from yesterday’s post, Key Questions For This New Year. I follow my own encouragement and choose three questions that are whispering for my attention.

Can I soften? Can I soften some more?

Which comes first, forgiveness or the peace?

What’s at stake?

Hard. Selfish. Controlling. Forcing our own way doesn’t get us where we need to go. If I soften, you soften. Together, we soften some more.

Forgiveness or the peace. Which comes first? I simply don’t know, because I myself can never muster either. Forgiveness and peace, both are gifts from God, generous gifts gradually grown in our softening hearts.

What really is at stake here? Life. Abundant life, eternal and evolving. If I surrender my whole self to be softened, to forgive and to be forgiven, God’s peace, unending peace, will rise up to regenerate.

God will turn to the prayer of the impoverished; he won’t despise their prayers. Let this be written down for the next generation so that people not yet created will praise the Lord (Psalm 102:17-18, CEB).

…Sue…

P.S. Thanks for your ongoing prayers for my mom and my dad. Returning to their villa at their senior living community in Ohio, they continue to have a really, really rough time with her colostomy bag. Finally, yesterday, they received some assistance they desperately need. And a visit from their great grandson also helped to brighten a very difficult day.
