funeral

Good morning…

Yesterday, I muted Gameday football to watch the funeral of a thirteen year old girl who died last week in a small engine plane crash at a nearby airport. Afterward, I sat in bed and quietly wept. How did each of her parents speak of their only child with such soulful eloquence? How did her pastor lift up beautiful words from beneath the pile of such deep grief? I cried tears of solidarity for this family, for these friends and for all those heartbroken by the ripples of this tragedy.

Yes, weep and grieve until the Spirit is poured down on us from above… (Isaiah 32:15a, MSG).

As I watched the music video below, a favorite song chosen in her honor, I envisioned this incredible dad singing these loving words to his amazing daughter. I sensed in my soul the truth spoken in Scripture: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and he saves those whose spirits have been crushed (Psalm 34:18, NCV).

Might you now listen and lift your own prayers for the many who are grieving great loss? This Sabbath morning, do you sense in your own soul the promise of our living Lord? Move your heart closer and closer to God, and he will come even closer to you (James 4:8a, TPT).
