Good morning…
Sharing how she felt about her recent break up after six years of dating, our daughter began reading aloud a quote she had just posted.
“Give it everything you’ve got, then let go. Show up fully. Take the risk. Have the hard conversation…” her voice trailed off into tears. “You read it,” she said. So I picked up where she left off.
“Put your whole heart into it. Leave knowing you did everything you could. Then let life meet you where it will. Because peace doesn’t come from controlling the outcome. It comes from accepting you’ve done your part.”
Then we curled up on the couches with my husband and our dogs. Together, we ate homemade Stromboli and watched last night’s Ben Sasse interview about his journey with pancreatic cancer. Ben offered a perfect example of giving it everything you’ve got, letting it go, and trusting that, in the care of God, all will be well.
The moment I called out, you stepped in; you made my life large with strength (Psalm 138:1b, MSG). May this statement continue to come true for our daughter, for Ben Sasse, and for each one of us risking life’s hard conversations.
…Sue…
P.S. Give yourself the gift of listening to a segment of Ben’s peaceful perspective.
