Good morning…

Yesterday morning’s rising sun was hidden in a sea of thick, rainy grey. Then as we marveled at last night’s setting sun, a Bible verse came to mind. In Genesis 8:22, God makes a powerful promise: “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.” I got to thinking, “There are so many lovely layers of life in between the extremes.”

Between the extremes of seedtime and harvest live many layers of sun and rain, time and growth, waiting and wondering “When?”

Between the extremes of cold and heat live many layers of frigid and chilly, refreshing and lukewarm, 60-70-80-degrees and burning hot.

Between the extremes of summer and winter live many layers of tee shirts and sweatshirts, scarves and gloves, bursting colors and falling leaves.

Between the extremes of day and night live many layers of dawn through dusk, each morning tips into afternoon, evening hours welcome drifting to sleep.

As we grow to trust God’s unceasing rhythms, seen and unseen, might we relax into the lovely layers between life’s extremes?
