Good morning…
Emmanuel, God-with-us, is born anew today. God humbles himself to put on skin, to grow up with us, to walk beside us, to quietly guide us. Christ’s footprint mirrors our footprint, wherever slushy, sloppy circumstances greet us at rise of sun. Day after day, night after night, God’s experience gently mirrors our experience so we never walk alone. Ever. Never ever.
Sometimes we catch a tangible glimpse of the ever presence of our loving LORD, but noticed or not, God is here.
God is with.
God walks beside.
That’s what Christmas is all about.
Hope of all hopes, dream of our dreams, a child is born, sweet-breathed; a son is given to us: a living gift. And even now, with tiny features and dewy hair, He is great. The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders. His name? His name we’ll know in many ways— He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing, Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6, The Voice).
With this soft-skinned person beside us, will we hope, will we dream, will we breathe deeply each sweet breath? Our collaborative, conversational Leader is great, power and authority rest on His shoulders, not our own.
Now we drift into dialogue. Loving Lord, be my Counselor. Please show Your gentle might, everlasting, ever-present, never-failing. You are the Master of my wholeness. You are the only Prince who offers me the power of peace, day in and night out. Thank You for being born anew right beside me, right now, forever.
