night

Good morning…

Flying back from a whirlwind weekend visiting family and friends in my hometown of Ohio, I nestled into the window seat. Scanning fun photos on my phone, a clear insight dawned: “People. It’s the people that make life feel good.” “And not just any people,” my thoughts continue now, following a full night of sleep, “but it’s the people who share the stories which have shaped me into me.”

Each of these photos has a story to tell, and each one of these people nurture grounding roots deep inside of me. Day after day. Year after year. For nearly sixty full years. From these inner roots grow stability, gratitude, and an expanding trust in the God who holds us all. “Soul friends” and extended family remind us who we really are, through the ups and the downs of life.

This weekend we discussed the challenging impact of strokes, Parkinson’s, ALS, dementia, serious surgeries, and our own aging bodies. We laughed our way through memories, celebrating good times, and we quietly shed some tender tears, reminiscing about what used to be. We processed the death of loved ones, shared our hopes for our expanding families, and savored the gift of waking up together in Spirit, whether we are near or we are far. Our simple presence in one another’s lives reminded us of the larger scheme of things.

It was by Him that everything was created: the heavens, the earth, all things within and upon them, all things seen and unseen, thrones and dominions, spiritual powers and authorities. Every detail was crafted through His design, by His own hands, and for His purposes. He has always been! It is His hand that holds everything together (Colossians 1:16-17, VOICE).

Our Creator has always been!

All things seen and unseen are crafted through His design.

It is God’s hand that holds everything in life together, every single detail.

As the steam rises from my mug of coffee, the sun shines on this first day of spring. Might we rest in God’s enduring truth?

Life is good. Life is really good.
