Good morning…
I felt burdened by heavy homework for a summer class I am taking. Reading. Podcast. TED Talk. I was drowning in a sea of complicated words, overwhelmed by crowded conclusions others have drawn. Suddenly, I turned off the assignment mid-sentence and followed my inner teacher, the Holy Spirit of the living God.
Surrounded by a gorgeous morning, I walked to the horse farm with our puppy Cami. Though I had been there a thousand times, in this magical moment I was surprised by the openness basking in the sun. In delightful silence, I took out my phone, snapped the photo above and typed myself a few notes.
“Get to a place
of wide open space.
Slow down.
Breathe deep.
Savor now.”
My unplanned walk made me a little late to class, but I arrived having lived the day’s key lesson. I knew it immediately when this quote appeared on the screen.
“Between stimulus and response
there is a space.
In that space
is our power
to choose our response.
In our response lies
our growth and our freedom.”
– Viktor E. Frank
Our power. Our response. Our growth. Our freedom. These gifts from God become ours when we get to a place of wide open space.
When trouble surrounded me, I cried out to the Eternal; He answered me and brought me to a wide, open space (Psalm 118:5, VOICE).
