distance

Good morning…

Each month we talk by phone for an hour – me in Atlanta, Georgia, she in Denver, Colorado. Our voices span the distance on all the important levels. Recently I read aloud to her a poem which reminds me of our God-given connection.

From Six Hours Away by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer

From six hours away,
she holds my hand.
Tonight when my ship
has no anchor, she meets
me in the waves and
floats with me there.
Not because I told her
I needed her. It’s more
that her soul is ever ready
to bob in the swells.
We drift. We say nothing,
but I don’t feel alone.
We’re alive in the silence
that weaves through all sound,
connected by the invisible
currents that govern whatever
is real. What is real: letting
another person feel what they feel.
And being there with them,
saying “I love being with you like this,”
sharing the fullness so present
even from six hours away.

Last week she texted me the link to a song, with the simple message, “Enjoy!” Deeply connected by invisible currents, I privately savored this new music video. Bonded from afar, we silently experienced “I love being with you like this,” sharing the fullness of friendship so present even from more than six hours away.

Jesus said, “I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.] (John 15:15b, AMPC).

Drifting across the distance together, what a friendship we have!

P.S. The fun photo above was taken by Corinne Adams during her far away travels to various regions of Africa. What a friend the world has in Corinne!
