Good morning…
“The more we let God take over, the more truly ourselves we become – because He made us,” says C.S. Lewis. “He invented us. He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be. It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.”
As I prepare to read Lewis’ words aloud in our first monthly Spiritual Growth Group for the fall, I weirdly think about the hairs that collect mysteriously on the floor of our tub. Each time I soak, hairs I no longer need drop from my head painlessly, effortlessly, outside of my control. My quiet shedding leaves room for new, healthy hairs to grow long, grow strong. As God thins out my unneeded parts, Christ-like characteristics mature, and I develop, day by day, the real personality God invented.
Month by month we do well to ask: “What is God inviting me to let go? What is God inviting me to let grow?” The more we let God take over, the more truly ourselves we become.
For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us] (Ephesians 2:10, AMP).
