Good morning…

Feeling anxious about the unknown ahead is a common experience for many of us. In response to this very human vulnerability, a friend sent me the devotional message below.

Wherever the Path Leads

Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there! – PSALM 77:19 NLT

When Pharaoh and his army pursued Moses and the Hebrews, God’s chosen people fled on a path that dead-ended at the shore of the Red Sea. Sure, they could turn right or left, but that would only result in their capture and return to slavery in Egypt.

They needed some guidance—which way to go.

We’ve all needed this kind of help from time to time. An eighteen-year-old needs help deciding on post-graduation plans. A dating couple needs to decide on the next step in their relationship. Which job is the right one to take? Which house is the wisest to buy? Life is full of these diverging paths that feel big and momentous, especially at the time we’re deciding which way to go.

When God answers our prayers for guidance, we expect there is already an established path wherever He will lead us. But just like He did with the Israelites, God can make a way when there seems to be no way through a situation. He will help us navigate difficult decisions and lead us on to bigger and better things. But we have to be willing to go where He leads and do what He tells us to do.

Our obedience and faith are what produce walk-through-the-Red-Sea-on-dry-ground kinds of miracles!

Lord, give me faith to follow You, even if the path doesn’t exist (yet)!

God’s Message yet again: “Go stand at the crossroads and look around. Ask for directions to the old road, the tried-and-true road. Then take it. Discover the right route for your souls” (Jeremiah 6:16a, MSG).

Go.

Stand.

Look around.

Ask for directions.

Take the tried-and-true road.

God is not only with us at all times, God is also guiding us forward. Slowly. Gradually. Step by step. Through our conversational relationship with the living God, we discover the right route for our souls.
