Good morning…
On Veteran’s Day each year, I enjoy browsing through videos created to honor the men and women who have served in our United States Armed Forces. Now I share with you my favorite tribute of this year, a piercing rendition of “Taps.”
“Taps” is a bugle call played at 2100 hours, during flag ceremonies, and at military funerals. The official military version is played by a single bugle or trumpet. There’s something quite beautiful and mournful in the music of this distinct call, as the strains are melancholy yet full of rest and peace. Appropriately, the origin of the word “Taps” is thought to have come from the Dutch word for “tattoo” (which is taptoe) since its echoes linger in the heart long after its tones have ceased to vibrate in the air.
Grieving, my soul thinks back; these thoughts cripple, and I sink down. Gaining hope, I remember and wait for this thought: How enduring is God’s loyal love; the Eternal has inexhaustible compassion. Here they are, every morning, new! Your faithfulness, God, is as broad as the day. Have courage, for the Eternal is all that I will need. My soul boasts, “Hope in God; just wait” (Lamentations 3:20-24, VOICE).
As you touch on the video link below, please share with me a moment of gratitude for those who are currently defending our freedoms and the service men and women we have loved and lost.
