Good morning…

One week ago today, we celebrated the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Now in the dark of night, I revisit a string of short video someone sent me, videos created to honor the vibrant life living on after the devastation of 9/11/2001. The Survivor Tree represents resilience, community, and new growth after loss. Seeds are picked from this now-gorgeous tree to grow seedling trees, trees which are shared annually with communities in our nation experiencing tragedy each year.

Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good (Genesis 1:11-12, NIV).

Hope.

Healing.

Regeneration.

The organic growth God set in motion at the beginning of creation continues to bear seeds in our daily lives, year after year, community by community. Amid the ugly rubble of hatred, division, and violence, do we train our eyes to see the growing goodness of our everlasting God?
