Good morning…
Waking in the middle of the night, the light on our bathroom floor whispers, “Sue, remember, it’s night one of this full moon cycle.” So I walk barefoot out into the night and looked up to see the moon shining brightly over our jagged roofline.

In our world today, so much feels jagged. Sharp. Irregular. Harsh. Uneven.
Two Ole Miss students died this week; one has deep roots in our Atlanta community. An 83 year mother passed away peacefully after being taken off life support with her adult daughters by her side; the two daughters have been longtime members of our Wednesday afternoon class. A sweet-hearted matriarch from our Northside Church family died yesterday; her smiling presence will be deeply missed by all. A rare September Nor’easter slams the East Coast; this weekend’s full moon is intensifying high tide damages. A young son marries his soulmate today; their close-knit family buried their beloved mother just last week. A memorial service was held in Norway to honor the generous, generative life of my sister-like friend Margit; the heart of my extended family grieves. A dear friend’s son deployed to the Middle East this week. Wars rage. Addictions steal. Divorce depletes. Disasters ravage. Diseases advance. All over the globe, the vulnerable struggle, struggle, struggle.
In our world today, so much feels jagged. Sharp. Irregular. Harsh. Uneven.
At the same time, the light of the full moon rising rises above all of us, shining through the darkness, quietly illuminating the one next step that is ours to take. Might this tender plea become our prayer?
O Eternal, show me Your way, shine Your light brightly on this path, and make it level for me (Psalm 27:11a, VOICE).
Amen, which means “may it be so.”
…Sue…
