Good morning…
From page 16 of Waking Up to This Day by Paula D’Arcy, we savored this sentence together. “Catherine of Siena writes, ‘My deepest me is God.'”
(Pause. Now. Really think about that. “My deepest me is God.”)
Then we moved to the next page and read aloud a powerful paragraph.
“It’s as if each of us has another, deeper life than the one being lived. It lies underneath our ordinary days, our errands, the doing of dishes, the writing of letters, the making of money, like something moving, lobsterlike, under the water. This only partially understood life (refused, often; banished, easily ignored) might be what is called the soul. The desire to know about it causes us to pray. But all the while it is moving toward something, as surely as we are advancing in our lives, through careers, marriages, children. Every now and then this hidden life surfaces . . . like a glimpse of things in that peculiar, vivid light after a rain.” – Nora Gallagher, Changing Light
Later on page 19, Paula picks up the golden thread of thought and sews us more encouragement.
“And, it seems, in this twenty-first century of continuing violence and unrest, that our future depends upon . . . our waking to the deeper life that moves in life, the life that sustains being. It depends upon our knowing what really matters and living out of that knowledge. It depends upon our opening to this deeper nature and being able to sustain a small glimpse of the ‘peculiar, vivid light after a rain.'”
In response, one woman said with delight, “It makes me think of a rainbow.”
The glorious radiance resembled a rainbow that lights up the clouds on a rainy day. This was nothing less than the glory of the Eternal that appeared to me. When I saw the vision of the Eternal and His glory, I fell upon my face and heard a voice speaking to me (Ezekiel 1:28, VOICE).
Prayerfully ponder: If the voice of the Eternal was speaking from the deepest part of me, what might He be saying right now?
