Good morning…

“I love that you posted on KIND30🌞,” wrote a long time friend last night.

“My good friend Beth Abernathy is the founder,” she explained, “and I am so thankful for the traction this movement has gotten! This might go global!! We need intentional acts of kindness more than ever now. I met with the development director at Skyland Trail today and she is going to take it to the Skyland Trail people to implement it at both their main campus and the adolescent campus for mental health. Also, Meredith Cole was very enthusiastic and helpful and Lovett is all in (along with SO many other schools, churches, small groups and organizations, and large corporations! Home Depot, Delta, Race Trac, Sea Island, GE Worldwide). Ron Greer did a talk on kindness this past Sunday at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (it was so great). You probably know all of this – but I am so excited!”

I didn’t know all of this, but I do know that we at Northside Church have created KIND30 calendars for all of our families, encouraging people to record their small, kind acts throughout the month of October. We also ran off and began filling out copies of the KIND30 calendars with the twenty-five kids in the after-school enrichment program at PAWkids, brainstorming intentional acts of kindness we might do each day. In addition, we did a fun, messy painting project with the word “KIND” imprinted.

The kids came up with lots of creative ways to bring to life the slogan of this grassroots movement, “Kindness Is Needed Daily.” As a natural byproduct, we noticed kids helping one another, encouraging one another, and enjoying these hands-on activities together.

Whatever age and stage we are, we sense kindness when we see it, when we experience it, and when we freely spread its healing power.

It wasn’t so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn…going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:4-5, MSG).
