Good morning…

This, the final day of July, marks a change of season for many families in our community. Experientially in August, summer ends and the school year begins. What a perfect time to look closely at who we are becoming. Becoming who we really are, we consider these questions today.

  • How might you describe an absence, a sense of bewilderment that invites the possible?
  • What are you learning from things you dropped and picked up and dropped again?
  • In what ways are you living like a piece of straw set parallel on a river, letting the flow carry you downstream?

When Steve and I were newly married, we worked with the students at a Presbyterian church where he served in Gettysburg, PA. One thing we enjoyed annual with the kids was a white-water rafting trip down the Youghiogheny River. Each year we received the same instruction.

“If you fall out of the raft, lift your toes up, point them downriver, and the current will eventually take you to shore.”

Over the years, I have learned to live “toes up”, trusting the Current to carry me to the people, the places, and the purposes God intends.

I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul (Psalm 139:14, VOICE).
