Good morning…

Twenty of us connected to Northside Church signed up for yesterday’s “Care of Body, Care of Soul” Day of Reflection at the Ignatius House Retreat Center. From 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, we joined about twenty other men and women for a day of silent reflection on the sacred grounds beside the Chattahoochee River. We slowed down. We took quality time.

For most of our women, this was their first silent retreat experience and some were quite apprehensive. Yet after settling into the place, chatting at breakfast, listening to two inspirational talks, eating delicious food, savoring extended silence, walking through the woods, resting as we felt led, pondering centering questions, and exploring various forms of prayers, all resistance fell away. We each encountered God.

At the end of the day, we debriefed about our experiences. One woman said, “I feel filled with the peace of God. Today is a sturdy anchor for tomorrow when we face the midterm elections. I cling to the promise of Psalm 139:12.”

Darkness is not dark to you, Lord,

and night shines as day.

Darkness and light are but one.

I now will end with the song that began our reflective day, Slow Down by Jonathan Edwards Ogden. Enjoy the creative dance of bodies and souls responding to the Giver of every breath.

Like darkness and light, may we move as one.
