Good morning…

At 2:00 pm today we will gather in the church sanctuary to celebrate Angie’s life. How utterly impossible to sum up a whole vibrant lifetime in one touching hour. Reading Angie’s obituary, I am struck by the expanse and the generosity of her love for others. How deeply she will be missed by so many left on earth. Mission-minded, family-oriented, an ordinary person just like us, Angie went to heaven last week at 68 years old.

Waking this morning at age 58, I think, “If I knew I had ten more years to live, how would I spend my final decade?”

Think about that question. What would be your answer?

I wonder if I would simply seek to stay in step with the God who gives each breath, walking beside the footprints left by Angie who did her best to walk with Christ. Might living our faith remain our focus for the days we have left on earth?

Process life with loved ones.

Genuinely respond to those in need.

Amplify the love of God every single day.

The word of God colors in more detail. Seize life! Eat bread with gusto. Drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes—God takes pleasure in your pleasure! Dress festively every morning. Don’t skimp on colors and scarves. Relish life with the spouse you love each and every day of your precarious life. Each day is God’s gift. It’s all you get in exchange for the hard work of staying alive. Make the most of each one! Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it (Ecclesiastes 9:9-11a, MSG).

Today we will celebrate Angie’s life, and, in the days to come, with gusto we will walk the precarious path blazed for us by God.
