Good morning…
I am not sure how I missed it, but this poem came into my email on New Year’s Day. Maybe I did not have the time, the margin, the courage to consider these key questions then. Now seems like the perfect moment for me to ponder this powerful poem. Are you open to joining me, friend?
As we slowly read through the questions posed, let’s choose one or two or three to wrestle with for a while. Which questions might you choose?

Questions for the New Year by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer
Why not believe in magic?
Can I soften? Can I soften some more?
Does truth exist? How are stones alive?
What if I never learn
what happens when we die?
What’s the next nice thing
I can do for someone else?
What’s for breakfast? What’s at stake?
When I dream of my beloveds, is it them?
Where am I in my own way?
How might I be more river, less dam?
Which comes first, forgiveness or the peace?
Which comes last, unknowing or the known?
What is love? What is now? What is home?
What is it in us that knows how to wonder?
What is it in us that knows how to grow?
Who are we really? What is courage?
What’s worth it? What’s asked of me now?
Should I be in this moment a blade or a bloom?
What’s the nature of higher ground?
Can I ask without longing for answers?
Can I feel I am one with it all?
How does life live through me?
Can I be in service to that?
What do I believe I can’t give away?
What if I say nothing and listen?
Will I choose awe today?

Beyond a simple “yes” or “no” where might our wanderings lead? Somehow, someway, somewhere, I think every honest answer will lead us deeper into the heart of God. May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness and patience of Christ (2 Thessalonians 3:5, AMP).
Resting in the love, the steadfastness, and the patience of the living Christ, might we notice our clenched fists relaxing to open palms?

P.S. One week from today, I will deliver fifteen “Welcome Bags” to the women attending an Ignatian Spirituality Project retreat at the Ignatius House Retreat Center. These women, who are recovering from homelessness and addiction, will be given the time, the margin, and the courage to journey inward, into the heart of our loving God.
If you would like to help me fill these “Welcome Bags,” bags which will be resting in the private rooms when the women arrive next Tuesday morning, please reach out to me privately for a list of suggested items at sue@suetoyou.com.
If you appreciate receiving these free daily messages, please consider giving a Gratitude Gift.
