Good morning…
“I love the image of Jesus’ outstretched hand ❤️,” she wrote after yesterday’s post.
“Right now I have had some devastating weeks with complications after my cancer treatment. Slowly recovering and welcoming all medical and psychosocial support. 🙏 Been in hospital for 9 days surrounded by love and dedication. Love, Margit.”
You might remember Margit, my lifelong friend from Norway who lived with our family for a year during her junior year in high school. I recently shared with you a post about her incurable cancer.
I responded to her text right away:
Good morning, Margit…
I am glad to know about your difficult situation, so I can be praying more diligently, specifically. I was hoping that this was a calm time for you physically, off treatment and getting stronger to resume new treatment again in August. That is the last report I got, but it seems things have taken a turn for the worse. I am sorry about that. For the past 10 days we have been at the lake in PA with Steve’s 95 year old mom (that’s where I have taken the night sky photos for our blog posts). In the same time frame you have been in the hospital experiencing your own type of darkness.
I too love that image of Jesus pulling us out of deep water and the scripture whispering, “Don’t be afraid; I will help you.”
I am wondering how you would feel about us writing back and forth any thoughts or questions or wonderings that we might have as you face these physical, emotional, spiritual challenges. I know that putting words to my experience is always so helpful to me. I think that is the main reason I feel compelled to continue blogging daily. When I write, I discern God’s voice in my life more clearly.
If you had thoughts you would want to sort through, what might they be?
I love you and so grateful for our forever bond,
Sue
“I have also always written,” she replied, “however, these last days I have been so tired and weak that words remain inside. Please continue to write me – I find great comfort and joy in reading your thoughts ❤️.”
“I will continue to write, pray, and send encouragement,” I texted. “Rest in the love and dedication surrounding you moment by moment.💝”
She ended our text exchange with a sweet photo taken with her granddaughter.

Why do I share with you our intimate communication?
Because Jesus reaches down to help us in our drowning darkness. Sometimes we share healing words. Sometimes, when tired and weak, words remain inside.
He reached down and drew me from the deep, dark hole where I was stranded, mired in the muck and clay. With a gentle hand, He pulled me out to set me down safely on a warm rock; He held me until I was steady enough to continue the journey again (Psalm 40:2, VOICE).
