Good morning…
The morning after snapping happy photos of our grandson Charlie last week, I looked down on our driveway and saw this gut-wrenching sight. A red frog had been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, innocently squished by the tire of my husband’s car. By no fault of it’s own, the poor fella was instantly, permanently leveled by life.
I sent the photo to a friend who, herself, had recently been innocently, abruptly leveled by life. Ugly betrayal. Totally blind-sided. Gut-wrenching pain. As we talked on the phone, I realized that this shocking image spoke her truth more clearly than any words I could muster.
Before our conversation, I googled, “What do red frogs symbolize?” I learned some interesting tidbits about these rare creatures.
- Fire, passion, life energy, strength, and a call to pursue new adventures in the spiritual realm.
- Encountering a red frog is viewed as a sign to be bold, face your fears, and stand strong during difficult times.
- Like all frogs, the red variety connects to personal growth and metamorphosis, but with an added push of fiery passion to jump into your next chapter.
The painful death of the life she loved is now leading my friend to a resurrection of sorts. Personal growth. Metamorphosis. Jumping into her next chapter.
Jesus, himself, knows exactly how my fragile friend feels. Photos I took at Ignatius House Retreat Center last month speak the tender, timeless truth of God.
Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges! Look at it! (2 Corinthians 5:17, MSG).
For my friend, the old life is gone. A new life emerges. I can’t wait to look at it with her!
