Good morning…

“She will look back over the kaleidoscope of her life and notice how the fragments of experience that made no sense at the time were, all along, shaping a rather beautiful pattern.” This is the sentence God used to snag me, to capture me, to coax me into teaching last semester’s book, “Simple Faith” by Margaret Silf. What a marvelous selection. But what book would God draw us to study together for Winter/Spring 2023?

It’s as if the Spirit did not skip a beat.

“A kaleidoscope is a delightful instrument,” said the sentence illuminating God’s new book choice. (I am not making this up!) “An image created by a collection of small objects, such as beads or pebbles, is viewed through a series of reflecting mirrors. Turn the kaleidoscope even slightly, and the pattern will fall apart and re-create itself into a new shape. The kaleidoscope tells the story of this book in a simple shake . . . It reflects the experience we have of being shaken up, scattered into a thousand fragments, and coming back down again in a different order all together. We can’t make sense immediately of the new pattern. It takes us to a place we haven’t been before: re-creation!” (p. 137)

“The Other Side of Chaos,” another book by Margaret Silf, will guide this semester of learning on Monday afternoons and on Friday mornings in our home. I will also be co-teaching “Parenting with Perspective” by Kim Meyers on Thursday mornings at church, along with helping to facilitate Bryan Stevenson’s “Just Mercy” on Sunday afternoons once a month. We also invites you to become a PAWkids Prayer Partner as together we find creative ways to support those impacted by poverty in our community. If you listen for Lady Wisdom, attune your ears to her,
    and engage your mind to understand what she is telling you,
If you cry out to her for insight
    and beg for understanding,
If you sift through the clamor of everything around you
    to seek her like some precious prize,
    to search for her like buried treasure;
Then you will grasp what it means to truly respect the Eternal,
    and you will have discovered the knowledge of the one True God.
The Eternal is ready to share His wisdom with us,
    for His words bring true knowledge and insight (Proverbs 2:2-6, VOICE).
