Good morning…

“She will look back over the kaleidoscope of her life and notice how the fragments of experience that made no sense at the time were, all along, shaping a rather beautiful pattern.” This is the sentence God used to snag me, to capture me, to coax me into teaching last semester’s book, “Simple Faith” by Margaret Silf. What a marvelous selection. But what book would God draw us to study together for Winter/Spring 2023?

It’s as if the Spirit did not skip a beat.

“A kaleidoscope is a delightful instrument,” said the sentence illuminating God’s new book choice. (I am not making this up!) “An image created by a collection of small objects, such as beads or pebbles, is viewed through a series of reflecting mirrors. Turn the kaleidoscope even slightly, and the pattern will fall apart and re-create itself into a new shape. The kaleidoscope tells the story of this book in a simple shake . . . It reflects the experience we have of being shaken up, scattered into a thousand fragments, and coming back down again in a different order all together. We can’t make sense immediately of the new pattern. It takes us to a place we haven’t been before: re-creation!” (p. 137)

“The Other Side of Chaos,” another book by Margaret Silf, will guide this semester of learning on Monday afternoons and on Friday mornings in our home. I will also be co-teaching “Parenting with Perspective” by Kim Meyers on Thursday mornings at church, along with helping to facilitate Bryan Stevenson’s “Just Mercy” on Sunday afternoons once a month. We also invites you to become a PAWkids Prayer Partner as together we find creative ways to support those impacted by poverty in our community.
