Good morning…

Today, January 6th, we celebrate Epiphany. Alongside Christmas and Easter, Epiphany is one of the three oldest festival days of the Christian church. In Greek, epiphaneia means “manifestation.” This Christian holiday commemorates the first manifestation of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, who are represented by the Magi, the three kings who traveled by the light of the star to visit the infant Jesus.

Yesterday, to prepare our hearts to be guided by the light of Christ, over the phone a friend read to me the follow poem. Twice.

Now I share it with you. Read it through once, slowly, savoring the gift. Then, as you read it again out loud, consider which word or phrase sparkles and shines like a beaconing star.

Now ponder the word or phrase capturing your attention. Ask the living Christ, “What new insight are you sparking in me during these still, silent moments?” Enjoy the epiphany, the fresh revelation, the guiding light.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life” (John 8:12, NLT).
