Good morning…
“Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for our home,” C.S. Lewis wrote in our post from yesterday. I have heard it said, “We are just walking each other home.” Our eternal home awaits us beyond.
For her junior year in high school, in 1975, my biological family provided a pleasant inn for Margit Steinholt. Living in the United States for a full year, Margit came over from Norway as a foreign exchange student and has been a unique part of our extended family for over fifty years. Visiting us periodically. Vacationing with us with her husband and kids. Hosting us in Norway as a family of five for a full month in 1976. The last time we were physically together was Valentine’s Day week in 2025 at my parents’ place in Ohio.
Yesterday, my dad texted: “I just read a post from Margit’s son. He said that Margit is getting weaker and is not receiving any treatment for her cancer. She has accepted that it is close to the end.”
For many years, our daily blog has been part of my walk with Margit. She responds to our posts regularly and I write back, exchanging life-giving thoughts, back and forth. In particular, Margit has loved our connection with PAWkids, a vibrant non-profit ministry in downtown Atlanta. Just last month, Margit asked my dad to make a donation to PAWkids in her name, and last week she asked for the donation link herself since some of her friends want to make donations there instead of sending flowers.
Giving generously. Loving boldly. Sharing freely. Margit has always lived life to the full.
Coming around this final bend, last week I also shared a devotional link, encouraging her to peacefully dwell with God: https://dwellapp.io/+2PKBV.
Now as you touch on the link yourself, relax into the soothing voice as we walk with Margit on her journey home. “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home,” whispers Jesus in John 14:2 (NLT).
