Good morning…

Following the past two posts about the DeShelters missing their daughter Audrey, who went to heaven ten hours before her twentieth birthday, a friend from Florida emailed me.

“Good morning Sue,” she wrote. “I cannot imagine what Jennifer and Ben are facing as parents. Blessedly God surrounds us with angels here on earth to comfort and encourage, and it is such a blessing that Audrey and her family are so well-loved. Below is a reflection that I think is encouraging and a beautiful reminder of the weight of glory that awaits us. Xo.”

I am deeply touched by this final statement: “Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage but will not encourage us to mistake them for our home.”

Soon after reading my friend’s email, I received a text from Jennifer.

“Thank you Sue for writing about Audrey again today,” she wrote. “The song I had with my post was Dolly Parton’s In the Sweet By and By.”

Listening to the song and focusing on the lyrics, I think C.S. Lewis and Dolly are saying similar things. Jesus also shares the very same truth.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am” (John 14:1-3, NLT).

…Sue…
