She read aloud another favorite quote: “And then it felt as though these thoughts came across to me in a prayer: ‘Walk on with empty hands, because I have so much more to give you in the future, and you can’t receive it if your hands are full. Don’t be afraid that in letting go you are losing anything at all, because everything that matters…has been internalized and is firmly lodged in your heart. It is yours. It is part of you. It travels with you and can never be lost.'” (Margaret Silf’s The Other Side of Chaos, 121)

The Lord is my shepherd;

I have all that I need.

He lets me rest in green meadows;

he leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength.

He guides me along right paths,

bringing honor to his name.

Even when I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will not be afraid,

for you are close beside me (Psalm 23:1-4, NLT).

Keeping everything that matters, God guides us through life’s darkest valleys.
